Show Highlights:
It’s Saturday in Athens! Woohoo! The off-season is over, and we get to watch our team play today! One of only 12 guaranteed chances to see the Dawgs play.
I heard Dabo Sweeny make this point on SportsCenter last night after the Georgia Tech-Colorado game (which Tech won 27-20). Dabo’s point was that after all of the effort, practice, and off-season workouts, it all boils down to just 12 chances to play each year. You could get more, but you have to earn it, à la conference championship game, bowl game, or playoff appearance.
I like that. Very folksy of Dabo.
I listened to a couple of chucks of this podcast and let me just apologize in advance for the drastic overuse of the word perspective. The problem with talking about comparative historical topics is that they are all about perspective, but I really bludgeoned the word beyond reason. Sorry. I’ll do better…
Despite that, I think you’ll appreciate the chance to unpack what makes Georgia one of college football’s historically great teams while considering Auburn’s recent decision to re-write some of their history.
Also, I remind you that if you’re interested, you can root for Carson Beck to upset Notre Dame in an unusual Sunday evening game at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. The holiday weekend and no NFL games yet usually create this fun extra-long weekend of college football. Notable teams have already played games Thursday and Friday night, including Nebraska, Boise State, Mizzou, Georgia Tech, Colorado, and Auburn.
Ohio State vs Texas is on at noon tomorrow. Our game is on at 3:30 p.m. and Alabama-Fla State is on at the same time. LSU-Clemson is tomorrow night, and then Sunday offers South Carolina-Virginia Tech, followed by the Miami-Notre Dame game. Everything is spaced out for nice viewing options.
Also, a special note of interest: In honor of Lee Corso’s final College GameDay show, Fox Sports plans to simulcast the famous “Headgear Pick” at the end of the show on their Fox Big Noon Kickoff Show. Very cool and classy move.
Go Dawgs!
