In fact, the National Championship over the last 15-25 years has been shared by a few select schools from an even more select number of conferences. NIL and the transfer portal have spread the elite talent around more than was typical just a few short years ago, and can also change the fortunes of teams down on their luck almost overnight. But at the top, the view is mostly the same. The elite remain the elite.
It’s been nice to be in the elite, but are we still there? To know how we stack up, first we have to identify who the contenders are this year.
